Individual Therapy for Adults
I believe the decision to engage in therapy is a radical act of self-love, communicating a heartfelt interest in creating change. With this in mind, my primary aim is to create a therapeutic environment where you can reflect on areas of tension and discomfort in your current life, identify and understand outdated and no-longer-helpful patterns and beliefs, and ultimately connect to your truer self with deeper acceptance and trust.
I am experienced in and enjoy working with:
Trauma, including 'old trauma', post-traumatic stress, and collective trauma
Grief, loss, bereavement
Depression, 'low mood,' and anxiety and panic
Life transitions and identity formation
Living with chronic health conditions, including adjusting to new health concerns
Medical trauma, including interpersonal and systemic harms
Caregiver stress, including healthcare provider stress and burn-out
My therapeutic work is informed by Control Mastery Theory, a psychodynamic and relational approach to psychotherapy. From that foundation, I draw from several modalities to promote well-being, including the mindfulness practices of meditation and movement, harm reduction principles, Attachment Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am trained in both EMDR and Flash Technique and can bring both treatment modalities into our work together as needed.
Having spent 15+ yrs working in medical settings, I am passionate about supporting people in healing medical trauma and working towards a more empowered experience seeking healthcare. I look forward to the day where all of us can celebrate seeking care for our whole selves, body, mind and spirit.
